PM Modi Praises Mumbai for BJP's BMC Victory, Promises Enhanced 'Ease of Living' Nationwide

In the wake of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) significant victory in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his gratitude to the people of Mumbai and Maharashtra, hailing the city as the "pride of our nation." The Prime Minister emphasized his government's commitment to enhancing the "ease of living" for all citizens.

The BJP has emerged as the single largest party in the BMC, breaking the decades-long hold of the Shiv Sena. The Maharashtra State Election Commission declared the results for 2,784 of the 2,869 seats across 29 municipal corporations, with the BJP securing 1,372 seats. The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is expected to secure control of 25 out of the 29 municipal corporations in the state. This victory signals a major political shift in Maharashtra's urban landscape, indicating a move towards development-focused politics.

"Thank you Maharashtra! The dynamic people of the state bless the NDA's agenda of pro-people good governance!" Modi posted on X. He further added that the election results indicate that the NDA's bond with the people of Maharashtra has deepened, and their track record and vision for development have resonated with the public. He lauded the efforts of every NDA Karyakarta who worked tirelessly among the people of Maharashtra.

The BMC elections saw a close contest across the 227 wards, with key victories for the BJP, Shiv Sena, Congress, and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray). The BJP dominated in Mulund, securing victory in all six wards. Yogita Sunil Koli from BJP won the Malad West ward with a significant margin. Asha Deepak Kale of the Congress secured a win from Ward 183.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attributed the Mahayuti alliance's win to the public's trust in Prime Minister Modi and the alliance's policies. He also acknowledged Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, stating that his blessings had helped the alliance secure the mandate. Fadnavis emphasized that their agenda will always be development and that they will use this victory to transform the lives of the people.

The election results also highlight the expansion of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and the Congress party finding a foothold. The Congress party performed better in the state compared to its Maha Vikas Agadi allies, Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP), which might provide the motivation the party needs for the upcoming state elections.

The BMC elections were held after prolonged delays due to the pandemic and legal disputes over ward delimitation. The BJP's success in these elections marks the end of the undivided Shiv Sena's nearly 30-year dominance in the BMC. The BJP-led alliance is set to secure around 125 of the 227 seats in the BMC, which has a substantial budget for 2025–26.

The Prime Minister's emphasis on "ease of living" aligns with the BJP's broader development agenda, promising improved infrastructure, governance, and public services for the citizens of Mumbai. This victory is expected to add momentum to the progress of Maharashtra and celebrate the state's glorious culture.
