LA Kings Eye Reunion: Exploring Trade for Another Former Edmonton Oilers Player to Bolster Roster.

The Los Angeles Kings are reportedly considering a trade for Vancouver Canucks winger Evander Kane, according to recent reports. This wouldn't be the first time the Kings have acquired a former Oiler, with Warren Foegele, Cody Ceci, and Corey Perry previously making the switch. Even Kings' General Manager Ken Holland is a former Oiler.

Two separate sources have indicated that Holland is exploring a potential trade for Kane. The 34-year-old Kane has recorded 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists) in 46 games this season with the Canucks. He is in the final year of a four-year, $20.5 million extension he signed with the Oilers in 2022 and is set to become an unrestricted free agent.

The Kings and Oilers have developed a fierce rivalry, meeting in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the past four seasons, with Edmonton winning each time. Acquiring Kane could be seen as another move in the Kings' strategy of "if you can't beat them, take their players".

The Canucks are reportedly in a rebuilding phase and may be looking to move Kane as a rental player. While Kane's 2025-26 season hasn't been stellar, he could still be a valuable asset for a team looking to add depth and experience for a playoff push. Thomas Drance suggests that the Canucks could expect a mid-round pick in return for Kane.

It is also worth noting that Kane holds a 16-team Approved Trade List, giving him some control over his destination. Given Holland's history with Kane in Edmonton, a reunion in Los Angeles could be a possibility.

The Kings have been actively looking to add a top-six forward to improve their scoring. They rank near the bottom of the league in goals scored and power-play percentage. With Anze Kopitar potentially retiring at the end of the season, the Kings have the cap space to take on a significant contract.

Other potential trade targets for the Kings include Nick Foligno and Ilya Mikheyev from the Chicago Blackhawks. The Kings had multiple scouts at a Blackhawks-Maple Leafs game in December, scouting for a scoring winger. Names like Nazem Kadri, Blake Coleman, Steven Stamkos, Brayden Schenn, Bryan Rust, Rickard Rakell, and Alex Tuch have also been mentioned as potential targets. Additionally, Chris Johnston has linked Elias Pettersson to the Kings, considering the team's need for a top center with Kopitar's possible retirement.
