Noida Techie's Death: Builders Face FIR Amid Family's Negligence Claim Regarding Missing Barricades

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against two builders following the tragic death of Yuvraj Mehta, a 27-year-old software engineer, in Greater Noida's Sector 150. The incident occurred early Saturday morning when Mehta's car plunged into a water-filled basement at an under-construction site. Preliminary investigations suggest that dense fog and overspeeding may have contributed to the accident, but the absence of adequate safety measures, such as barricades and reflectors, is being heavily scrutinized.

Mehta was driving home from work around midnight when his car veered off the road, crashed through a roadside drain's boundary wall, and fell into a 20-foot-deep pit filled with water. The construction site, intended for a future mall, had been excavated for nearly two years and was allegedly filled with stagnant water.

In a distressing phone call to his father, Rajkumar Mehta, shortly after the accident, Yuvraj pleaded for help, saying, "Dad, I've fallen into a deep pit filled with water. I'm drowning. Please come and save me. I don't want to die". Despite rescue efforts by local police, the fire department, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), it took nearly five hours to retrieve Mehta's body from the submerged vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim's family and local residents are alleging negligence against the builders and the Noida Authority. They claim that repeated requests for barricading, reflectors, and proper lighting around the hazardous site were ignored. Residents also stated that prior accidents have occurred at the same location. The lack of adequate safety infrastructure, particularly the absence of barricades and warning signs, is being cited as a major factor in the tragedy.

The FIR has been registered based on a complaint filed by Mehta's father, who holds the builders responsible for the negligence that led to his son's death. The police have stated that further action will depend on the post-mortem report and the findings of the ongoing investigation. Authorities are now constructing cement barricades at the accident site.

The incident has sparked public outrage and protests, with residents demanding accountability from both the builders and the Noida Authority. Questions are being raised about the safety of construction sites and the lack of infrastructure in the outer areas of Noida. The tragic death of Yuvraj Mehta has highlighted the critical need for stricter enforcement of safety regulations and greater responsiveness from civic authorities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
