Joao Pedro's aggression sparks Chelsea win: Brentford battle highlights key to hard-fought victory.

Joao Pedro believes that Chelsea's aggression was key to their hard-fought 2-0 Premier League victory over Brentford on Saturday. In Liam Rosenior's debut league game as head coach, Chelsea secured a much-needed win, ending their five-match winless run in the league.

Chelsea's first goal came in the 26th minute when Michael Kayode's attempted clearance deflected into the path of Joao Pedro, who unleashed a powerful shot into the roof of the net. The goal was initially ruled offside but was later awarded after a VAR review. In the 76th minute, Cole Palmer sealed the victory with a penalty after Liam Delap was fouled by Caoimhin Kelleher.

Despite the win, Pedro admitted that Chelsea "didn't play as well as we can". However, he emphasized the importance of being aggressive, especially at home. "When we play at home, we need to show ourselves and be aggressive like we did today," Pedro stated. He believes that the win will boost the team's confidence as they continue to compete for a spot in the top.

Rosenior echoed this sentiment, highlighting Pedro's all-around performance and work rate. He praised Pedro for winning duels and making a 70-yard sprint back to make a tackle during a Brentford transition. Rosenior said he wants to see that level of commitment from all his players, adding, "the harder you work for the team, the more chances come for you, and he took his chance magnificently".

Brentford, managed by Keith Andrews, put up a strong fight and created several chances throughout the game. Kevin Schade and Mathias Jensen both came close to scoring, with Jensen hitting the post in the first half. Andrews expressed his disappointment with the result but said he was happy with the team's performance. He felt that Brentford were not clinical enough with the chances they created.

Chelsea's goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez, played a crucial role in the win, making a remarkable save early in the game to deny Tosin Adarabioyo's own goal. Sanchez's performance earned him the "Player of the Match" award.

The victory lifts Chelsea to sixth in the league table, while Brentford sit seventh. Chelsea face Pafos in Champions League action next, followed by a Premier League derby against Crystal Palace.
