In a strategic move to maximize revenue, the makers of the hit Bollywood franchise "Dhurandhar" are planning to sell the satellite and linear transmission rights for both the first film and its upcoming sequel, "Dhurandhar: The Revenge," as a single package. This approach aims to capitalize on the franchise's brand value and the anticipation surrounding the sequel before its theatrical release.

The first film, starring Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal, was released in December 2025 and became a major commercial success, known for its intense plot and ambitious scale. Given the first movie's blockbuster status, shattering box office records, there is significant interest in the sequel, slated to release in theaters on March 19, 2026.

According to a public notice in the trade magazine Complete Cinema, director Aditya Dhar and Jio Studios are securing licenses for exclusive linear transmission and retransmission rights. These rights will cover satellite channels, DTH (direct-to-home) services, IPTV (internet protocol television), cable, and other media platforms.

A source familiar with the negotiations told Mid-Day that discussions with satellite channels have begun. The first film is expected to begin airing around March 31, 2026, while the sequel will make its television debut approximately 117 days after its theatrical release. The team is reportedly finalizing worldwide transmission deals, excluding China, Taiwan, and Macau.

Trade analysts view this combined broadcast strategy as a practical business decision, reflecting confidence in the franchise's continued appeal. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh noted that bundling the rights ensures a good return, given the first film's success. He added that this strategy allows the makers to demand a higher price.

This move comes after reports that "Dhurandhar" secured a ₹130 crore deal with Netflix for the streaming rights to both films. The first installment is expected to begin streaming on Netflix from January 30, 2026.
