Dave Bautista's Afterburn Action Arrives: Streaming on OTT Platforms Starting January 23rd

Dave Bautista's post-apocalyptic action film, Afterburn, is set to begin streaming on Lionsgate Play on January 23, 2026. The movie, which had a theatrical release on September 19, 2025, is directed by J.J. Perry and features a cast including Samuel L. Jackson, Olga Kurylenko, and Kristofer Hivju.

Afterburn is based on the Red 5 Comics graphic novel of the same name by Scott Chitwood, Paul Ens, and Wayne Nichols. The film is set six years after a massive solar flare that has devastated Earth, wiping out technology and decimating the global infrastructure. The story follows Jake (Dave Bautista), an ex-soldier turned treasure hunter who seeks valuable pre-flare objects for powerful clients in a world now resembling an anarchic wasteland.

Jake is hired by August Valentine (Samuel L. Jackson), the self-proclaimed "King of England," to retrieve the Mona Lisa from France. In exchange, Valentine will fund Jake's dream of repairing a boat. Jake reluctantly accepts the job and teams up with Drea (Olga Kurylenko), a member of a rebellion against the tyrannical warlord General Volkov (Kristofer Hivju).

As Jake and Drea navigate the dangerous post-apocalyptic landscape, they are pursued by Volkov's forces. They eventually discover that the Mona Lisa is not what it seems; instead, it is an American atomic bomb, a sister to Fat Man and Little Boy, sought after by both Valentine and Volkov.

The film explores themes of post-apocalyptic survival, treasure hunting, the value of art and objects from the past, redemption, duty, action and adventure, and the chaos of warlordism. The screenplay is written by Matt Johnson and Nimród Antal. Roque Baños composed the music, José David Montero handled the cinematography, and Luke Dunkley served as the editor.

Afterburn was produced by Toby Jaffe, Neal H. Moritz, Steve Richards, Kevin Weisberg, Ryan D. Adams, and Clay Pecorin. The film has a running time of 106 minutes.

The film's digital release on Lionsgate Play is highly anticipated, offering viewers the chance to witness Dave Bautista's portrayal of a treasure hunter navigating a world ravaged by a solar flare.
