Republic Day 2026: Sanjay Leela Bhansali Celebrates Indian Cinema's Glory on Kartavya Path Parade Float.

New Delhi - In a historic first, acclaimed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali will represent Indian cinema at the Republic Day Parade on January 26, 2026. The director, known for his grand sets and emotionally intense storytelling, will present a special tableau celebrating Indian cinema on Kartavya Path. This initiative is a collaboration between Bhansali and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Sources close to the event reveal that Bhansali was initially hesitant to accept the honor, given his commitments to his upcoming film "Love & War," starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, slated for release in 2027. However, his team convinced him to undertake the challenge. Since then, Bhansali has reportedly been deeply involved in preparing a special tableau that insiders are calling an "epoch-defining tribute" to Indian films.

A source stated, "For the first time ever, a true flag-bearer of Indian cinema, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, will represent Indian cinema at the Republic Day Parade. This historic honour marks a defining chapter for Indian cinema and is set to create strong national momentum. There could be no better representative for this moment than Sanjay Leela Bhansali".

Bhansali's work, including films like "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam," "Devdas," "Black," "Bajirao Mastani," "Padmaavat," and "Gangubai Kathiawadi," has consistently blended tradition with scale, showcasing Indian narratives on a global stage. His films have traveled across international festivals, resonating with audiences worldwide. The Republic Day tableau aims to reflect the scale, discipline, and emotional intensity that characterize his filmmaking, celebrating Indian cinema in its entirety.

Bhansali made his directorial debut with "Khamoshi: The Musical" in 1996. Beyond directing, he is also a producer, screenwriter, editor, and music composer. Bhansali launched his own music label, Bhansali Music, in 2024 and debuted on OTT with the web series "Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar". He has received several awards, including seven National Film Awards and a Padma Shri in 2015.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting's collaboration with Bhansali underscores Indian cinema's cultural richness, creative excellence, and global influence. Indian cinema has long been one of India's strongest cultural ambassadors. Bhansali's representation is expected to highlight the grandeur, discipline, and emotional depth of Indian cinema.

Bhansali is also co-producing "Do Deewane Seher Mein," starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Mrunal Thakur, which is set to release on February 20, 2026.
