The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards are being announced today, January 22, 2026, and the world is watching with bated breath. The nominations are being announced by Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman. Among the many films in contention, India's Homebound has garnered significant attention, particularly in its home country, as it vies for a nomination in the Best International Feature Film category.
Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor, Homebound is India's official entry to the Oscars this year. The film, which explores themes of dignity, migration, friendship, and disillusionment, has already secured a spot in the top 15. If Homebound secures a nomination, it would be the first Indian film to do so since Aamir Khan's Lagaan in 2001.
However, the competition is stiff. Homebound is up against films such as It Was Just An Accident (France), Sentimental Value (Norway), Belén (Argentina), The President's Cake (Iraq), Sound of Falling (Germany), Kokuho (Japan), All That's Left of You (Jordan), Palestine 36 (Palestine), No Other Choice (South Korea), Sirât (Spain), Late Shift (Switzerland), Left-Handed Girl (Taiwan), and The Voice of Hind Rajab (Tunisia). Only five of these films will make it to the final nomination list.
Meanwhile, in Hollywood, Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another and Ryan Coogler's Sinners are expected to be strong contenders, potentially grabbing multiple nominations. Other films like Hamnet, Marty Supreme, F1, Frankenstein, Train Dreams, and Bugonia are also generating buzz and could secure nominations.
The nominations will be announced in two parts. The first segment is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. ET, followed by the second at 8:41 a.m. ET. Viewers can tune in to the live announcement on ABC's Good Morning America, as well as via livestreams on Disney+, Hulu, and the Academy's social media platforms, including YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.
The 98th Oscars will be held on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The ceremony will be televised live on ABC and in more than 200 territories worldwide.
