The wife of a Goods and Services Tax (GST) official who was discovered dead in his car in Beed, Maharashtra, last week alleges that her husband's death was a result of sustained mental harassment at his workplace. Sachin Jadhavar was found dead on January 17 in the Kapildharwadi area along the Dhule-Solapur highway.
Following a complaint by Jadhavar's family, police have registered a case of abetment of suicide against Dilip Phate, an assistant commissioner in the Beed GST department.
Mayuri Jadhavar, the deceased's wife, met with Beed Superintendent of Police Navneet Kanwat on Friday, asserting that her husband faced harassment in both his professional and personal life. She claimed there had been an attempt to kidnap their son from school and an incident where her husband's vehicle was intentionally hit outside his office, accompanied by verbal abuse, all aimed at mentally breaking him.
Mayuri questioned the delay in registering a case related to her husband's death and demanded access to the "suicide note" allegedly found by the police. Several members of the Jadhavar family protested outside the Beed rural police station, urging the registration of a case against those they claimed were named in the note. The family ended their protest after senior officials assured them of a thorough investigation into their allegations.
According to police reports, a note recovered from the scene mentioned work-related issues. The family also alleges personal threats against Sachin Jadhavar, including the attempted kidnapping of their son. Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation following the family's protests.
