In a recent interview, Imran Khan revealed that he was dropped from the film Delhi 6 because the filmmakers were hesitant to invest in an unproven actor. Khan, who recently made a cameo appearance in the film Happy Patel after a decade-long absence from the big screen, discussed missed opportunities in his career.

Khan stated that he auditioned for Delhi 6 around 2006-2007, before his debut in Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na. He recalled, "At that point, I had not made any films, I tested for the (lead role) film. But at the time, they didn't want to put the money on a new person, on an untested, unproven person". Delhi 6, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, eventually starred Abhishek Bachchan in the lead role.

Khan also mentioned being replaced in Bhavesh Joshi, with Harshvarrdhan Kapoor taking on the role. He attributed these early setbacks to his newcomer status. Despite these missed opportunities, Khan remains positive and is now focused on working on projects that he genuinely loves.

After a decade-long break, Imran Khan has returned to the screen, not seeking stardom, but driven by friendship and the joy of filmmaking. He explained that he wants to reconnect with people he enjoys working with and create films for the love of it, rather than chasing box office numbers. Khan said he spent the last two years reading scripts without feeling excited, until he heard about Happy Patel, directed by his friend and Delhi Belly co-star Vir Das.

Khan emphasized that he is not trying to become a big star and will only take on projects he truly loves. He added that he is financially secure and prefers working with friends and like-minded people, believing that art should come from a place of love and joy. In Happy Patel, Khan plays Milind Morea, an international supermodel, in a cameo role that was written specifically for him by Vir Das.

Imran Khan's career began with the commercially and critically successful film, Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na in 2008, for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He went on to star in several successful romantic comedies, including I Hate Luv Storys, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, and Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, as well as the action comedy Delhi Belly. After a series of box-office flops, Khan took a hiatus from acting. He is the nephew of actor Aamir Khan and director-producer Mansoor Khan, and the grandson of director-producer Nasir Hussain.

While reflecting on his past, Khan has expressed interest in collaborating with director Neeraj Ghaywan, known for his authentic storytelling, as he re-engages with the film industry.
