Imran Khan, who recently made his comeback to the big screen after a decade-long hiatus with a cameo in "Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos," has revealed that he was initially considered for roles in two major Bollywood films: "Delhi 6" and "Chennai Express". However, things didn't align as he had hoped, and the roles eventually went to Abhishek Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, respectively.
Khan shared that he auditioned for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's "Delhi 6" back in 2006-2007, before his debut film "Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Naa" was released in 2008. Despite his enthusiasm and connection with the story, the makers of the film opted for a more established actor. Khan expressed his disappointment, stating, "I was quite devastated that I did not get the part". He understood the filmmakers' perspective, acknowledging that given the film's scale and budget, they wanted a more well-known face. Khan, who was born in the United States and felt like "a child of two worlds", related to the character in "Delhi 6", further fueling his desire to be a part of the film.
Regarding Rohit Shetty's "Chennai Express," Khan recounted that the director approached him for the lead role shortly after the release of "Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na". However, after initial discussions and a narration, both Khan and Shetty realized that they weren't in sync creatively. Khan explained, "We had a couple of conversations about it. But between us, we figured that we were not in sync creatively". He added that while Shetty's narration was hilarious and the film turned out to be exactly that, he didn't believe he was the right fit for the role. Khan felt that Shah Rukh Khan was a better choice for the part, stating, "I don't think I could top Shah Rukh".
Khan also revealed that Vikramaditya Motwane had approached him for "Bhavesh Joshi," but the role ultimately went to Anil Kapoor's son, Harshvardhan Kapoor. He mentioned being dropped from a film after the poor performance of his 2013 film "Gori Tere Pyaar Mein". Despite these missed opportunities, Khan appreciates the uniqueness and originality of the projects. He expressed admiration for directors like Neeraj Ghaywan, known for films like "Masaan" and "Homebound", and expressed a desire to collaborate with him in the future.
