Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai Team: Satish Shah's Padma Shri is a Deserved Honour, Though Overdue.

The team behind the beloved sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai has expressed their feelings regarding the posthumous Padma Shri conferred upon Satish Shah, the veteran actor who played Indravadan Sarabhai. While they acknowledge the honor, there's a shared sentiment that the recognition is overdue.

Satish Shah, who passed away on October 25, 2025, at the age of 74, was a Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) alumnus. He became a household name through his roles in Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, and, most notably, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. His portrayal of Indravadan Sarabhai, an ex-director of an MNC with a unique sense of humor, remains iconic.

Deven Bhojani, the director of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, shared his thoughts on the honor, stating that while the award is welcome, it feels like it came late. Other cast members echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Shah's immense contribution to Indian cinema and television.

Rajesh Kumar, known for his role as Rosesh in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, fondly remembered how Satish Shah helped shape his character. He noted that the chemistry between the cast members, particularly the reactions from Ratna Pathak Shah and Satish Shah, elevated his performance. Kumar recalled the playful environment on set and how Shah's teasing helped him develop the character of Rosesh.

Following Satish Shah's death, the Sarabhai vs Sarabhai cast members, including Rupali Ganguly, Sumeet Raghavan, Rajesh Kumar, JD Majethia, and Deven Bhojani, came together to pay their respects. They sang the show's title track at his funeral, a gesture that Deven Bhojani described as a tradition. Bhojani shared a video of the tribute, explaining that they always sing the song when they are together and that it felt as though Satish Shah himself was present.

The posthumous Padma Shri to Satish Shah is among the 131 Padma Awards approved by the President for 2026, which includes five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri honors. The list includes 16 posthumous awardees and 19 women recipients.
