Farhan Akhtar has reportedly decided to put "Don 3" on the back burner and prioritize his long-awaited project, "Jee Le Zaraa". This decision follows Ranveer Singh's departure from "Don 3," prompting Akhtar to take a more deliberate approach to casting the lead role.
According to sources, Akhtar believes that casting the new Don is a "crucial" process that requires considerable time and deliberation. He wants to ensure that the actor stepping into the role is the perfect fit to uphold the legacy of the iconic series. "Farhan feels the casting of Don is crucial. He wants to be absolutely sure about who steps into the role, and it is a longer process," a source revealed.
With the casting phase for "Don 3" expected to take longer than initially anticipated, Akhtar has reportedly reopened discussions regarding "Jee Le Zaraa". This road-trip drama was originally announced with Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Katrina Kaif, and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles. The film has been eagerly awaited since its announcement, and it remains a passion project for the filmmaker.
"Jee Le Zaraa has always been special for Farhan," the source added. "With Don 3 taking time at the casting stage, he felt this was the right moment to revive discussions with the original team and push the film forward".
The script for "Jee Le Zaraa" is reportedly finalized, with previous delays primarily due to logistical hurdles and coordinating the schedules of the three leading actresses. Akhtar has reportedly begun fresh conversations with Chopra, Kaif, and Bhatt, expressing hope that their timelines can align. "Everyone is keen, it's just about finding that common window," an insider confirmed. If the dates align, production for "Jee Le Zaraa" could commence in the second half of 2026.
While "Don 3" is temporarily on hold, Akhtar's co-produced film, "Boong," a Manipuri coming-of-age drama, has received a nomination in the Best Children and Family Film category at the 2026 BAFTAs. Akhtar shared his excitement, stating, "The entire team is very thrilled by the nomination for Boong. We are honored that BAFTA has recognised the film's message, and what value it holds for a family audience".
