In a landmark move to bolster health research across the nation, twenty All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have joined forces to establish a pan-India collaborative research consortium. Directors from these twenty AIIMS institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize this collaborative effort. The initiative aims to strengthen biomedical and clinical research by creating a synergistic network that pools expertise, infrastructure, and patient data for joint projects and multicentric studies.
This consortium will prioritize national health concerns, including the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare and the development of affordable therapies. By creating a unified platform, the AIIMS network seeks to accelerate scientific translation and improve healthcare outcomes for all citizens. The collaboration envisions facilitating joint research endeavors, multi-institutional studies, and clinical trials, along with promoting knowledge sharing among the participating institutions.
AIIMS New Delhi played a crucial role in facilitating the meeting of directors from the twenty AIIMS institutions, which led to the signing of the MoU and the formal establishment of the consortium. The collaborative research consortium marks a significant step towards strengthening national health research.. The partnership will enable the institutions to address complex health challenges more effectively and efficiently.
Notably, AIIMS Delhi has also collaborated with IIT Delhi to establish a Centre of Excellence for AI in healthcare. This center will focus on developing AI-based solutions to support key national health programs. The Ministry of Education awarded a grant of Rs 330 crore to the two institutes for this initiative under the 'Make AI in India, Make AI Work for India' initiative last year.
The Director of AIIMS Delhi, M Srinivas, expressed confidence in the potential of the AIIMS and IIT Delhi collaboration to revolutionize healthcare in the country. IIT Delhi Director Rangan Banerjee echoed this sentiment, highlighting the potential for advancing affordable healthcare solutions through the partnership. Dr. Krithika Rangarajan, leading the project from AIIMS Delhi, emphasized the patient-centric approach of the initiative, focusing on improving healthcare access and outcomes for all citizens.
