Delhi Capitals Victorious Over UP Warriorz, Securing WPL Eliminator Spot; Mumbai Indians' Journey Ends

In a thrilling encounter at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara, Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated the UP Warriorz (UPW) by five wickets in their final league match of the WPL 2026, securing their place in the Eliminator. This victory also meant the end of the road for the Mumbai Indians (MI), who were knocked out of contention for a playoff spot.

Asked to bat first, the UP Warriorz struggled to build momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals. Chinelle Henry made an immediate impact by dismissing UPW skipper Meg Lanning for a duck on the very first ball of the innings. The Delhi Capitals' bowlers maintained tight control, with Marizanne Kapp leading the charge, taking 3 wickets for 30 runs. Chinelle Henry supported Kapp well, claiming 2 wickets for 25 runs. Deepti Sharma (24) and Simran Shaikh (22) offered some resistance, but the UP Warriorz could only manage a total of 122/8 in their 20 overs.

Chasing a modest target, Delhi Capitals also faced some nervous moments. UP Warriorz tried to apply pressure with some timely wickets. However, Jemimah Rodrigues remained composed and guided her team to victory. Rodrigues sealed the win with a boundary, finishing unbeaten and ensuring Delhi's progression to the Eliminator. Delhi Capitals completed the chase with five wickets in hand. Marizanne Kapp was named Player of the Match for her impactful bowling performance.

With Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) already securing the top spot and a direct entry into the final, and Gujarat Giants (GG) claiming the second spot, the Delhi Capitals will now face Gujarat Giants in the Eliminator on February 3. The winner of the Eliminator will then face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final on February 5.

The loss for UP Warriorz means they finished at the bottom of the WPL 2026 standings. According to UP Warriorz head coach Nayar, their team had a miserable time in WPL 2026 due to a misfiring batting unit and repeatedly shuffling their middle order. Mumbai Indians, the defending champions, also failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The WPL 2026 points table now stands as follows: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (12 points), Gujarat Giants (10 points), Delhi Capitals (8 points), Mumbai Indians (6 points), and UP Warriorz (4 points).
