As the NHL trade deadline on March 6 approaches, several intriguing rumors are circulating. Artemi Panarin's future with the New York Rangers is uncertain, Linus Ullmark is set to return for the Ottawa Senators, and the Nashville Predators are reportedly considering some moves.

Panarin's Potential Destinations

Artemi Panarin's time with the New York Rangers may be coming to an end, with the team reportedly holding him out of recent games to protect him from injury as trade talks intensify. According to NHL insider Kevin Weekes, as many as 14 teams have expressed interest in acquiring the star winger, including Anaheim, Los Angeles, San Jose, Vegas, Dallas, Utah, Colorado, Minnesota, Seattle, Toronto, Carolina, Washington, Tampa Bay, and the New York Islanders. Weekes also notes that more clubs are expected to join the mix, but any move would require Panarin's approval due to his no-movement clause.

Adding a layer of complexity, Panarin is reportedly seeking a $50 million contract extension, which could limit the number of teams willing to acquire him. Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported that teams interested in signing Panarin to an extension include the Washington Capitals, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers, Detroit Red Wings, and Carolina Hurricanes. While the Colorado Avalanche, Anaheim Ducks and Dallas Stars might consider Panarin as a rental player. Pierre LeBrun said that Panarin wants to go to Florida, according to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, who says it's Panarin's top choice.

Ullmark Returns for Senators

After a month-long absence, Linus Ullmark is set to return to the Ottawa Senators' net. He is scheduled to start on Saturday against the New Jersey Devils, marking his first game since December 27. Ullmark's absence was due to mental health challenges, which he openly discussed in an interview with TSN's Claire Hanna.

Ullmark has a 14-8-5 record with a .881 save percentage in 28 games this season. The Senators acquired Ullmark from the Boston Bruins in June 2024, parting with a significant package to retain his services. General manager Steve Staios has denied rumors that Ullmark was on the trade block, clarifying that his absence was due to personal matters and that the organization fully supports him.

Predators Potentially on the Move

The Nashville Predators are reportedly exploring options to reshape their roster ahead of the trade deadline. NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman suggests that the Predators are willing to trade Michael Bunting and Michael McCarron. While big names like Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Ryan O'Reilly are also being discussed, McCarron is drawing interest on the trade market.

The Colorado Avalanche are reportedly interested in acquiring veteran Ryan O'Reilly. O'Reilly, who signed a 4-year, $18 million contract with the Predators, has 18 goals and 33 assists in 52 games this season. McCarron, a pending UFA with a $900,000 cap hit, is a physical forward who could be a valuable addition for teams seeking to add toughness for the playoffs.

As the trade deadline approaches, these are just a few of the many rumors swirling around the NHL. It will be interesting to see which teams make moves to improve their chances of success in the playoffs.
