Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed his frustration following a controversial decision during their 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. The bone of contention was Tottenham's first goal, scored by Dominic Solanke, which Guardiola felt should have been disallowed.

The incident occurred when Solanke challenged for the ball inside the penalty area, making contact with Marc Guehi in the process. Guardiola argued that Solanke had kicked through the calf of Guehi to force the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma. While the goal was reviewed by VAR, the focus of the check was seemingly on a potential offside in the buildup, rather than the foul itself.

Guardiola didn't hold back in his post-match comments. "Well, if you do it to a striker it would be a penalty," Guardiola stated to BBC radio. He further added, "I'm not a referee... Fascinating in the Premier League". Speaking to Sky Sports, Guardiola said "It was a good game...After the goal they conceded, we struggled. We came back again. In general, it was a really good performance. Unfortunately, we could not win".

The City boss appeared to suggest the decision had a significant impact on the game's momentum. "They put in more direct balls, they found the goal, and after that the momentum that always happens in the Premier League happened," he explained. He said that after the Spurs goal, his team struggled for about 10 to 20 minutes. Guardiola also alluded to a possible agenda, stating that "nothing had changed" his opinion of referees after being frustrated again at a major decision.

Despite his clear dissatisfaction with the officiating, Guardiola also acknowledged his team's performance. He said that the game plan was to try to play with the ball, score goals, and not concede. He noted that his team had good control in the beginning, but "some transitions, the control they had, we didn't have. It was not a big issue".

The draw leaves Manchester City with ground to make up in the Premier League title race. When asked about the status of the title race, Guardiola said, “We are playing at a high level. We didn't have the consistency to win the games when others were able to do it, Fourteen games is a lot of games. Six points. Next one".
