Andy Carroll, the former England footballer, has denied breaching a non-molestation order related to his ex-wife, Billi Mucklow. The 37-year-old, who currently plays for Dagenham & Redbridge, entered a not guilty plea at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
The charge stems from allegations that Carroll repeatedly contacted Mucklow in March of last year, violating the order issued by the Family Court at Chelmsford Justice Centre. Mucklow is known for her appearances on the reality TV show "The Only Way Is Essex".
During the brief hearing, Carroll, wearing a green coat, using crutches and a foot brace on his left foot, confirmed his name, address, and date of birth. He was offered a seat by the court clerk but declined, stating he was okay to stand. When asked about his preferred court for trial, Carroll elected for a Crown Court hearing.
District Judge Roy Brown granted Carroll bail and scheduled his next appearance for March 4th at Chelmsford Crown Court. The hearing is set for plea and trial preparation. Judge Brown informed Carroll that he would be asked to enter a plea at that time, and if he maintains his not guilty plea, arrangements would be made for a trial.
Carroll's football career began with Newcastle United before a high-profile transfer to Liverpool in 2011 for £35 million. He later played for West Ham, Reading and West Brom among other teams. He earned nine caps for England between 2010 and 2012, scoring twice, including a goal at Euro 2012.
