As the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) gears up for mayoral elections on February 11, the Mahayuti alliance has announced its candidates for the top positions. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Ritu Tawde, a three-time corporator from Ghatkopar, as its candidate for Mayor. Simultaneously, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena has picked Sanjay Shankar Ghadi, a corporator representing Dahisar, as its nominee for the Deputy Mayor post.

The announcement was made on Saturday, February 7, by Mumbai BJP president Ameet Satam at the BMC headquarters, marking a crucial step towards establishing a new civic body after four years of administrative rule. Senior party leaders and corporators were present at the meeting.

Ritu Tawde, a senior BJP corporator, was first elected from ward number 121 in Ghatkopar in 2017 and has also served as the Chairperson of the Education Committee. Tawde expressed her gratitude to the party leadership for entrusting her with this responsibility, calling it a "historic moment". Sanjay Ghadi is a corporator from Magathane.

Ameet Satam stated that the new administration aims to make Mumbai a corruption-free city and will govern with the support of the city's residents.

The BJP and the Shinde-led Shiv Sena secured a clear majority in the BMC elections, winning 89 and 29 seats respectively, totaling 118 out of 227 seats. The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) won 65 seats, becoming the second-largest party in the corporation.

The mayoral election on February 11 will mark the end of a four-year period of administrative rule in the BMC. The Deputy Mayor's term will be for one-and-a-half years.
