Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna are reportedly set to star in an upcoming romantic comedy directed by Amit Sharma, known for films like "Badhaai Ho" and "Maidaan". This collaboration follows closely on the heels of their work together in "Cocktail 2," also starring Kriti Sanon.
According to reports, Kapoor and Mandanna developed a strong professional rapport while filming "Cocktail 2". Their positive experience led them to readily agree to collaborate again on this new project.
Amit Sharma's untitled film is expected to offer a refreshing mix of romance and comedy. The on-screen dynamic between Kapoor and Mandanna is anticipated to be more personal, emotional, and layered compared to the lighthearted relationships explored in "Cocktail 2".
The film will be produced by Sunir Kheterpal under The Vermilion World banner, in association with Jio Studios. Kheterpal has previously produced films such as "Farrey," "Badla," "Rocky Handsome," and "Dobaaraa". This project marks his second collaboration with Shahid Kapoor, following Ali Abbas Zafar's "Bloody Daddy". It also reunites Kheterpal with director Amit Sharma; the two previously worked together on "The Intern," which was unfortunately shelved after the death of veteran actor Rishi Kapoor. Since then, the producer-director duo has reportedly been discussing several projects and have now finalized this film as their next venture.
Filming for the rom-com is expected to begin in August or September of 2026, after Kapoor and Mandanna complete their current professional commitments. Kapoor is currently promoting his upcoming film, "O' Romeo," directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, which is scheduled to release in theaters on February 13. Following that, he will begin filming for the second season of Raj & DK's Prime Video series, "Farzi," reprising his role as Sunny alongside Vijay Sethupathi, Kay Kay Menon, Raashi Khanna, and Bhuvan Arora.
Mandanna also has a busy schedule ahead. In addition to "Cocktail 2," she will star opposite Vijay Deverakonda in the historical epic, "Ranabaali," set to release on September 11, 2026. She also has "Mysaa" and Allu Arjun-Atlee's action film, #AA22xA6, in the pipeline.
