Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted a comprehensive review of development projects in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, reaffirming the Modi government's commitment to building a prosperous region. Shah emphasized the need to harness the full potential of hydropower projects in the Union Territory. He chaired a high-level meeting in Jammu to assess the progress of key infrastructure projects and the implementation of various schemes.

The meeting, held at Lok Bhawan, was attended by Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, J-K Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, and other senior officials. Shah arrived in Jammu & Kashmir late Thursday night and began his two-day visit by touring forward outposts of the Border Security Force (BSF) along the International Border in Kathua district.

During the review, Shah assessed progress in critical sectors, including road and power infrastructure, industrial growth, digital connectivity, and welfare schemes. He stressed the importance of achieving 100 percent saturation of Central government welfare schemes to ensure that the benefits of all development projects reach the intended beneficiaries.

Shah identified tourism as a major pillar for the future development of Jammu and Kashmir and directed officials to expand tourism infrastructure, promote emerging destinations, and ensure safety, accessibility, and connectivity. He called for aggressive promotion of J&K's tourism offerings in other states to fully tap the region's vast potential. The Home Minister assured that the central government would extend all necessary support to develop new tourist circuits and strengthen existing ones.

Addressing concerns following the terror attack in Pahalgam last year, Shah noted that the enthusiasm of domestic travelers to visit the region has not diminished. The attack, which occurred on April 22, 2025, claimed 26 lives and temporarily disrupted the tourism industry. Shah's remarks sought to reaffirm the government's resolve to restore confidence and revive the sector.

On Friday, Shah chaired a security review meeting that was attended by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, with a focus on freeing Jammu & Kashmir from terrorism. He also met with families of police officers who lost their lives fighting terrorism and presented them with job letters.
