RSS Chief: Caste Exploitation Continues Today Driven by Political Ambitions and Self-Serving Agendas.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has asserted that the caste system is now perpetuated for political purposes and selfish interests. This statement reflects a continued dialogue within the RSS regarding the role and relevance of caste in contemporary Indian society.

Bhagwat has previously stated that the concepts of varna and jaati (caste) should be discarded entirely, asserting that the caste system has no relevance in the present day. He has also expressed the view that social equality was historically a part of Indian tradition but was unfortunately forgotten, leading to damaging consequences. He has appealed to people to remove caste from their minds to end discrimination.

In Aligarh, Bhagwat called on RSS volunteers to work towards ending deep-rooted social discrimination to ensure social harmony. He proposed initiatives such as having "one temple, one well, one crematorium" for all, seemingly advocating for the end of the caste system and caste-based discrimination.

Bhagwat has also emphasized inclusivity within the RSS, stating that anyone can become the sarsanghchalak (RSS chief), regardless of their caste. He clarified that the position is open to individuals from all backgrounds, including Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, and that the selection is based on merit and contribution to the organization.

These statements and actions suggest a shifting perspective within the RSS, with an emphasis on moving beyond traditional caste divisions and promoting social harmony. However, some sources indicate that the RSS ideology is based on 'Hindutva', which is inseparable from the varna and caste system. According to these sources, the RSS believes in the caste system, expecting individuals to perform their duties without complaint based on their position in the caste hierarchy.

Despite these contrasting views, the RSS chief's recent statements highlight the ongoing debate surrounding caste and its impact on Indian society and politics. While advocating for the eradication of discrimination, Bhagwat's remarks also acknowledge the current reality where caste continues to be exploited for political gain. This complexity underscores the challenges involved in addressing deeply entrenched social divisions and promoting a more equitable and inclusive society.
