Pune: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune on Monday, February 9, 2026, after experiencing chest congestion. Doctors have stated that his condition is currently stable.
The 85-year-old political leader was brought to the hospital from his residence in Baramati after complaining of a cough and breathing difficulties. He was accompanied by his daughter, Supriya Sule, a Member of Parliament, and her husband, Sadanand Sule.
According to hospital sources, Pawar underwent a CT scan, which revealed a chest infection. Following the diagnosis, doctors initiated further tests to fully assess his condition. Dr. Abhijit Lodha of Ruby Hall Clinic told reporters that Pawar's condition is stable and attributed the chest congestion to physical exertion. Dr. Lodha also clarified that Pawar is in a private room and not in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Supriya Sule shared an update on social media, stating that her father would require a five-day course of antibiotics. She also noted that his other vital parameters are normal and expressed gratitude to the medical team and well-wishers.
Rohit Pawar, Sharad Pawar's grand-nephew and an NCP leader, appealed to party workers not to gather at the hospital to avoid causing inconvenience. He reassured them that there was no cause for worry and that Pawar was receiving the best possible care. He also added that the family believes that the hospital protocol should be followed, and nobody will be allowed to meet him.
Dr. Parvez Grant, chief cardiologist and managing trustee of Ruby Hall Clinic, confirmed that a CT scan indicated an infection in Pawar's chest. Doctors are closely monitoring Pawar's health, and treatment decisions will be made after reviewing all test reports. Depending on the evaluations, Pawar may remain under observation for a day.
