Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has declared that the Babri structure will never be rebuilt. Speaking at a public gathering in Barabanki on Tuesday, Adityanath asserted that those who dream of reconstructing the structure will remain disappointed. He emphasized that the government keeps its promises and only commits to what it can deliver.
Adityanath's statement follows a pledge by Humayun Kabir, a former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, to build a replica of the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad, West Bengal, ahead of the upcoming elections. The Chief Minister's strong stance on the sensitive issue is expected to influence the heated election campaign in West Bengal.
"Those who are dreaming of the Babri structure, to them I would like to say that day will never come," Adityanath stated, adding people should learn to live by the rules in India and abide by the law. He warned against breaking the law, stating that such actions would lead to ruin. "If someone is dreaming of going to paradise by breaking the law, that dream will never come true," he said.
Adityanath also targeted the opposition, claiming that festivals in Uttar Pradesh were unsafe before 2017 and curfews were frequently imposed. He said that law and order are now solid, creating a safe environment for all. Invoking an incident in 1990 when then Uttar Pradesh CM Mulayam Singh Yadav ordered firing at karsevaks in Ayodhya, Adityanath said there is no place for "Ramdrohis" or those who fired bullets at Ram devotees. He also criticized those who only remember Lord Ram during crises.
The Samajwadi Party (SP) reacted sharply to Adityanath's statement, calling it "frustration politics". SP MP Awadhesh Prasad stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) ideology would not work, citing his victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Faizabad, which includes Ayodhya. He argued that the people of Ayodhya had sent a message that the BJP's ideology and mindset would no longer be effective in the country. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav also criticized Adityanath, stating that the BJP becomes communal when they fear losing power and urged the UP Chief Minister to not use words like 'Qayamat'.
Adityanath made the remarks during a religious program at the Shri Ram Janaki Temple in Barabanki. He said that there is no place for those who were obstacles in Ram's work and that the dreams of those who think otherwise would never come true.
