The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) released a statement urging Indian nationals to exercise caution and carefully consider the evolving situation before planning any non-essential trips to Iran. The MEA also advised Indian nationals currently residing in Iran to remain vigilant, stay informed about developments, and maintain contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran. The Indian Embassy in Tehran has emphasized the importance of safety and security for its nationals in Iran, advising them to register with the embassy to receive important safety and security updates.
The advisory follows a series of military escalations in the region. Recently, Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, targeting Iranian nuclear and military sites, which was followed by Operation Midnight Hammer when the U.S. struck multiple Iranian facilities. Iran retaliated with missile attacks on Israel and a U.S. base in Qatar. While a ceasefire was announced by the U.S. President, the situation remains tense.
The Indian government is closely monitoring the situation and taking steps to ensure the safety of its citizens in the region. The embassy has urged Indian citizens in Iran to stay connected through its social media platforms and remain updated through official advisories. Indian nationals already in Iran who are interested in leaving may avail themselves of commercial flight and ferry options that are currently available.
The U.S. State Department has also launched a public awareness campaign, warning Americans, especially those with Iranian heritage, against travel to Iran. A U.S. spokesperson stated that the Iranian regime routinely denies consular access to dual nationals, stressing that it is not safe to travel to Iran.
