Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio is facing a potentially serious legal battle, with prosecutors in Spain reportedly seeking a prison sentence of two and a half years for his alleged involvement in a case stemming from a sex video recorded in 2023. The case involves allegations of sexual relations with two minors in a hotel in the Canary Islands.

Asencio, a 22-year-old center-back for the La Liga club, is accused of requesting and sharing a video of the scene for private purposes, even though he was not directly involved in the act itself. The explicit video allegedly involved two girls between the ages of 16 and 20. The legal proceedings originate from a complaint filed in September 2023 by the mother of one of the minors involved.

While three former Real Madrid players, Ferran Ruiz, Juan Rodriguez, and Andres Garcia, face up to four years and seven months in prison for their participation in these allegedly consensual acts, Asencio's situation is different. He is accused of sharing the video, leading to charges of breach of privacy and child pornography.

Asencio's legal team is pursuing a strategy to reduce his criminal liability. His lawyer, Alfonso Morales Camprubí, has reportedly reached an agreement with the victims involved in the case. The aim is to classify Asencio's involvement as a minor offense, which would separate him from the other three players involved. If successful, this could result in a financial penalty rather than a prison sentence, under Article 197 of the Spanish Penal Code, which addresses unauthorized sharing of private content.

Despite this agreement, the Public Prosecutor's Office is not planning to drop Asencio from the legal process. Prosecutors are still evaluating the final legal classification but have made it clear that the player will stand trial alongside the other suspects. This indicates that the prosecution believes Asencio's actions warrant a more severe punishment than just a fine, regardless of the agreement reached with the victims.

Born in Las Palmas, Canary Islands, Asencio joined Real Madrid's youth academy at the age of thirteen. He progressed through the ranks and eventually made his La Liga debut for Real Madrid on November 9, 2024, in a match against Osasuna. Asencio is considered one of the important players in Real Madrid.

The ongoing legal proceedings have cast a shadow over Asencio's career. The outcome of the trial could have significant implications for his future at Real Madrid and his overall career as a professional footballer.
