Naomi Osaka stormed into the quarter-finals of the WTA Montreal event with a dominant performance, while Madison Keys battled her way through a tough match to also secure a spot in the final eight.

Osaka's victory was swift and decisive, as she routed Anastasija Sevastova 6-1, 6-0 in just 49 minutes. This was the second-fastest victory of Osaka's career. After the first two games where both players were tied, Osaka won the next 11 games, giving Sevastova no chance. This marks Osaka's first WTA 1000 quarter-final appearance of the year and her first time winning four matches in a single tournament at the main level since Auckland. Osaka is looking rejuvenated in Montreal. After a loss in Washington, she decided to part ways with coach Patrick Mouratoglou and collaborate with Iga Swiatek's former coach, Tomasz Wiktorowski. Osaka expressed her satisfaction with the new partnership, noting Wiktorowski's decisiveness and humor. Osaka will face either Amanda Anisimova or Elina Svitolina in the quarter-finals.

Madison Keys also advanced to the quarter-finals in Montreal, but her path was far more challenging. Keys overcame Karolina Muchova in a thrilling three-set match, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. Keys saved two match points while serving down 5-4 in the second set. She won the last three games of the match to secure the victory. This is the third time in 2025 that Keys has won from match point down, following her victories over Iga Swiatek. This win marks Keys' second quarter-final appearance in Montreal, her first since her run to the final in 2016. To reach this stage, Keys had to dig deep and fight back from a set down against a tricky opponent. After dropping the first set 4-6, Keys bounced back, taking advantage of a double fault from Muchova to break and win the second set 6-3. The final set was a tense affair, with Keys ultimately prevailing. Keys will face either Iga Swiatek or Clara Tauson in the quarter-finals.
