Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have announced their engagement via a joint Instagram post on Tuesday, August 26, with photos from Kelce's proposal in a garden filled with pink and white roses. The announcement included a close-up of Swift's dazzling engagement ring.
The ring features an estimated 8-carat Old Mine Brilliant Cut diamond set on a gold band. This particular cut is a historic one, dating back to the early 18th and late 19th centuries. According to VRAI, a fine jewelry company, Old Mine Cut diamonds are recognized by their square shape with rounded corners and 58 facets, also noting that no two diamonds of this cut are identical. They also have a small table, a larger culet, and a high crown. Benjamin Khordipour of Estate Diamond Jewelry described it as a stunning elongated antique cushion-cut diamond, with F color and VS1 clarity. The ring was handcrafted in 18k yellow gold with needle point prongs to match the antique style. Smaller diamonds and hand-engravings adorn the shoulders.
Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry designed the ring. While the exact price remains undisclosed, experts estimate it to be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Benjamin Khordipour from Estate Diamond Jewelry estimates the ring at $550,000. Daniela Tarantino, VP of Merchandising of James Allen and Blue Nile, estimates the ring could cost as much as $750,000 to $1 million. Another jewelry expert, Laura Taylor from Lorel Diamonds, believes the ring to be around 10 to 12 carats, potentially costing around $1 million based on the quality and whether the diamond is natural. Ann Grimmett, VP of Merchandising at Jared Jewelers, estimates the ring "would cost approximately $250-500k" and includes a bezel set 7 to 9 ct elongated old mine cushion cut, set in 18k yellow gold.
The couple has been dating since 2023. During an episode of the football player's podcast, New Heights, Swift announced the upcoming release of her 12th album, The Life of a Showgirl. Kelce told GQ that, "Whenever I'm with her, it feels like we're just regular people. We're just two people that are in love...It happened very organically, even though from a media standpoint it was being tracked". A source told Us Weekly that the pair are "on the same page" and "want to be married and have kids in the future. They're both genuinely ready for that chapter".
