Heavy rains have been lashing several parts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru, causing traffic congestion and prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an 'orange' alert for coastal regions. The IMD has warned of widespread rainfall across Karnataka until September 1, attributing it to a low-pressure system over the north Bay of Bengal, near the Odisha coast. This system, coupled with an associated circulation extending up to 7.6 km above sea level, is expected to bring heavy rain to several parts of the state.

Bengaluru experienced 4.3 mm of rainfall between 9 am and 5:30 pm on Wednesday, leading to traffic disruptions at major junctions. The weather forecast for Bengaluru includes generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain or thundershowers in some areas over the next 12 hours. Sustained winds of 30-40 kmph are expected, with temperatures ranging from a maximum of around 28 degrees Celsius to a minimum of nearly 20 degrees Celsius. Residents should brace for a rainy week with high humidity.

Coastal districts such as Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada are under an 'orange' alert due to the heavy showers. The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in these districts until August 30, with the 'orange' alert remaining in place for coastal, Malnad, north interior, and south interior regions until August 29. An 'orange' alert signifies expected daily rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm. The Met Department has issued a red alert for Coastal Karnataka, predicting extremely heavy rainfall until September 2, advising residents to stay updated with local advisories, avoid low-lying areas, and plan their travel with caution. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected to impact daily life and travel.

Rainfall has also been reported in Belagavi, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Shivamogga, Vijayapura, Tumakuru, and Mysuru. Heavy rainfall has been forecast for Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Hassan, and Kodagu districts, with a yellow alert issued for these districts on August 27 and 28.

In the north interior districts, wind speeds of 30-40 kmph are expected until August 28, with similar conditions in the south interior districts until August 29. Along the Karnataka coast, winds may blow at speeds of up to 60 kmph until August 28, and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.

The weather in Bangalore in August typically sees average temperatures between 68°F and 82°F. Rainfall is expected for roughly half of the month, with approximately 8 to 15 days of rain. The average wind speed in Bengaluru during August is 21 km/h, indicating breezy to windy conditions.

Persistent rain and high humidity are expected throughout the week, and residents are advised to wear appropriate clothing and rain gear. Traffic delays are anticipated due to the wet conditions, and commuters are advised to plan accordingly.
