Aamir Khan has openly addressed the failure of his film "Laal Singh Chaddha," a remake of the Hollywood classic "Forrest Gump," admitting that the movie did not resonate with audiences despite the hard work and dedication of the cast and crew. The actor has taken responsibility for the film's poor performance, suggesting that his portrayal of the titular character fell short of expectations.

Khan acknowledged that the film was a "passion project" and that its failure was emotionally difficult. He admitted to feeling "sad" and experiencing a period of "depression" for a few weeks after the film's release. During this time, he said he received a lot of support from family and friends. Khan said that he values failures because they push him to do better. He also stated that failure teaches a person what really went wrong and provides an opportunity to understand the mistake in terms of communicating the story.

"Laal Singh Chaddha," which also starred Kareena Kapoor Khan, Naga Chaitanya, and Mona Singh, was released in August 2022. Made on a reported budget of ₹180 crore, the film grossed approximately ₹61.36 crore in India. Worldwide, the film managed to gross ₹129.64 crore. While it became the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2022 in international markets, surpassing movies like "Gangubai Kathiawadi" and "The Kashmir Files," it was still considered a box office flop in India.

Khan has reflected on the reasons why "Laal Singh Chaddha" failed to connect with audiences. He noted that the episodic and non-mainstream writing style of "Forrest Gump" requires a "magical" performance from the lead actor to succeed. He feels that he was unable to deliver such a performance, which ultimately let the film down.

Despite the film's shortcomings, Khan said that he learned a lot from the experience and will apply those lessons to his future projects. He emphasized the importance of honesty during postmortems to identify weaknesses and mistakes, viewing them as opportunities for improvement. Khan's willingness to take responsibility for the film's failure has been praised as a rare example of self-reflection and honesty from a Bollywood star.

Following the release of "Laal Singh Chaddha," Aamir Khan took a break from acting. His next project is "Sitaare Zameen Par," a sequel to his 2007 film, "Taare Zameen Par," which is slated for release in December.
