Netflix India is celebrating a remarkable achievement with nine nominations at the prestigious Asian Academy Creative Awards (AACA) 2025. This recognition highlights Netflix's commitment to delivering diverse and compelling stories that resonate with audiences globally. The nominated titles represent a wide array of genres, showcasing the depth and breadth of Indian creativity.
Leading the nominations is "Black Warrant," which has been named a "National Winner" and has garnered an impressive five nominations. These include Best Promo or Trailer, Best Editing (Tanya Chhabria), Best Sound (Kunal Sharma), Best Screenplay (Satyanshu Singh and Arkesh Ajay), and Best Cinematography (Saumyananda Sahi). Adding to the accolades for "Black Warrant," Zahan Kapoor has received a nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of Sunil Gupta. Kapoor expressed his gratitude, calling his involvement in "Black Warrant" an "unforgettable journey" and acknowledging the role as a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity.
In addition to "Black Warrant," three other Netflix India productions have been honored as "National Winners". "Modern Masters – SS Rajamouli" is nominated for Best Documentary Programme (One-Off), celebrating the acclaimed filmmaker. "The Greatest Rivalry: India vs Pakistan" secured a nomination in the Best Documentary (Series) category. Chandradev Bhagat, the director and producer, noted the nomination was "truly special". "IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack" has also been recognized for Best VFX (Dipen Bhaskar and Vivek Dey).
Tanya Bami, Series Head at Netflix India, expressed her excitement and humility at the recognition across such a diverse range of stories and genres. She emphasized that it is a testament to the amazing work of their partners and the talent both in front of and behind the camera. Bami stated that this is Indian creativity at its finest, and Netflix is proud to support these voices.
The nominated shows will now represent India at the AACA's Grand Awards, competing with other productions from across the Asia-Pacific region. The Gala Finals will be held in December in Singapore.
This year's nominations follow Netflix India's success at the Asian Academy Creative Awards 2024, where "Amar Singh Chamkila," "Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar," "The Railway Men," and "The Hunt For Veerappan" received nominations. "The Hunt For Veerappan" ultimately won the award for Best Direction (Non-Fiction). The current nominations solidify Netflix India's position as a significant force in the Asian content landscape, demonstrating its commitment to showcasing Indian stories on a global stage.
