Dominic Solanke has expressed his determination to return to Tottenham Hotspur "in the very near future" following a minor surgery to address a persistent ankle issue. The England international forward has been struggling with the injury for several months, limiting his appearances for Spurs.
Solanke, who joined Tottenham in August 2024, has only featured in three games this season, with his last appearance on August 23 against Manchester City. The 28-year-old has been dealing with the nagging ankle problem since the start of pre-season. Despite attempts to manage the injury, surgery was deemed necessary after it continued to hinder his progress.
In a message to fans on Instagram, Solanke confirmed the successful surgery and conveyed his optimism for a swift return. "The last few months have been very frustrating as I've tried everything possible to try and push through my ankle issue before taking the option of surgery," he stated. "None of this managed to solve the problem, so we had to go ahead with minor surgery, which I underwent this morning. It was all successful so hopefully I'll be back on the pitch in the very near future. Thank you for all your love and messages".
Tottenham's manager, Thomas Frank, had previously confirmed that Solanke underwent a "minor" procedure to address the issue. He also indicated that more information regarding the timeframe for Solanke's return would be available after the international break. Frank acknowledged the frustration surrounding Solanke's injury, especially after the player had spent a month on the sidelines before the decision for surgery was made. He said, "Dom we know got that ankle issue that's been bothering him for a little while. Decided to have minor surgery. Small procedure. More news about time frame after the international break,".
Solanke's absence has been a setback for Tottenham. In the 2024/25 season, Solanke played in 45 of Tottenham's 60 games, scoring 16 goals. His contributions were significant, and his absence has been felt by the team.
The recent Champions League match against Bodo/Glimt highlighted Solanke's absence, with stand-in captain Micky van de Ven expressing disappointment with the team's performance. Spurs managed a 2-2 draw after being down 2-0. Van de Ven, who scored his first Champions League goal in the game, acknowledged the tough nature of the match and expressed relief at securing a point.
Dominic Solanke joined Tottenham from Bournemouth in August 2024. During his time with Bournemouth, he made 216 appearances and scored 77 goals. His past achievements include being named to the 2021/22 EFL Championship Team of the Year and the PFA Championship Team of the Year. He also won the Premier League Player of the Month award for December 2023.
