A Station House Officer (SHO) from the Rajpur police station in Dehradun has been suspended after allegedly crashing his car into three other vehicles while driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred late Wednesday night in the Rajpur area of Dehradun.
The accused officer, identified as Shanky Kumar, reportedly hit three vehicles in quick succession. According to reports, Kumar attempted to flee the scene after the collisions, but was stopped by bystanders who recognized him. Some individuals present at the scene recorded a video of the incident, which quickly went viral on social media.
Taking note of the video and the officer's inappropriate behavior, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh immediately suspended Kumar. SSP Singh has also ordered a case to be registered against Kumar for misconduct and causing damage. Furthermore, medical tests were conducted on Kumar and others involved in the incident.
In the wake of Kumar's suspension, Sub-Inspector Deepak Dhariwal, who was previously stationed as the station head of Kalsi, has been appointed as the new SHO of Rajpur police station.
SSP Dehradun has made it clear that the law is the same for everyone, and no one can be given any relaxation. He added that the duty of the police is to protect the public, and such behavior tarnishes the image of the department. Therefore, strict action has been taken to send a message that misconduct will not be tolerated at any level. The SSP's firm action indicates that playing with the law and rules will not be tolerated at any level. The matter will be investigated completely and further legal action will be taken against the culprits.
This incident has raised concerns about the conduct of law enforcement officials and the importance of upholding the law, regardless of position. The swift action taken by the SSP demonstrates a commitment to accountability and maintaining public trust in the police force.
