Defense Minister Rajnath Singh issued a strong warning to Pakistan on Thursday, October 2, 2025, regarding its military expansion in the Sir Creek area. Singh cautioned that any "misadventure" by Pakistan would be met with a decisive response that would alter "both history and geography".
Singh, speaking to troops at the Bhuj Military Station in Gujarat after performing Shastra Puja, reminded Pakistan that "the road to Karachi also passes through the Creek". He invoked the 1965 war, recalling that the Indian Army had reached Lahore. He stated that in 2025, Pakistan must remember the route to Karachi goes through Sir Creek.
Sir Creek is a 96-kilometer tidal estuary located in the marshlands along the India-Pakistan border, between Gujarat and Sindh. The area has been a point of contention due to differing interpretations of the maritime boundary. The dispute stems from the demarcation of the boundary line between the two countries. While a 1968 international tribunal settled most of the Rann of Kutch border issue, Sir Creek remains unresolved despite multiple rounds of talks.
Singh accused Pakistan of harboring "ill intentions" regarding Sir Creek, pointing to the recent expansion of its military infrastructure in the area. He said that India has made repeated attempts to resolve the dispute through dialogue, but Pakistan's intentions remain unclear.
He also recalled Operation Sindoor, where Indian armed forces successfully thwarted Pakistan's attempts to breach India's defense network from Ladakh to the Sir Creek area. Singh stated that the swift and effective counter-action by Indian forces exposed the weaknesses of Pakistan's air defense system and sent a clear message that India can inflict heavy damage at a time, place, and manner of its choosing. Despite its capabilities, India demonstrated restraint as Operation Sindoor was aimed at countering terrorism, not provoking a wider conflict. He said that the military objectives of Operation Sindoor were successfully achieved.
Singh praised the jointness of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, calling them the three strong pillars of India's national security. He urged the armed forces to be alert to the challenges beyond the borders.
Singh was scheduled to visit the Sir Creek area but could not due to bad weather. At the Bhuj military base, the Minister performed a shastra puja of the upgraded L-70 Air Defence Gun in the presence of Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and other senior officers. He described the ritual not merely as a ceremony but as a reflection of India's civilizational philosophy, where weapons are regarded as instruments of dharma, not simply tools of violence.
