Nissan is gearing up to re-enter India's competitive SUV market with the Tekton, a new C-segment SUV slated for launch between April and June 2026. This launch marks a significant step in Nissan's "One Car, One World" strategy and aims to revitalize the brand's presence in the country.
What it Offers:
- Design: The Nissan Tekton's design is inspired by the iconic Nissan Patrol, featuring a bold and muscular stance. The front fascia includes a wide grille with a double chrome strip, connected LED daytime running lights (DRLs), and C-shaped LED headlights. The bonnet also features bold 'TEKTON' badging. On the sides, the SUV has a tall silhouette, functional roof rails, squared-off wheel arches, and a 'Double-C' shaped accent on the front doors inspired by the Himalayas. The rear boasts an extended roof spoiler, connected tail lamps with an inverted C-shaped design, and thick body cladding.
- Expected Features: While Nissan has kept interior details largely under wraps, the Tekton is expected to offer a modern dashboard layout with a large touchscreen infotainment unit, connected car technology, a digital driver display, and premium upholstery. Other anticipated features include a sunroof (possibly panoramic), climate control with rear AC vents, a powered driver's seat, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, ambient lighting, and a premium sound system. Safety features may include six airbags, electronic stability control, and possibly advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
- Platform and Manufacturing: The Tekton is based on the all-new CMF-B platform and will share its dimensions and underpinnings with the Renault Duster. It will be manufactured in India at the Renault-Nissan alliance factory in Chennai, both for domestic sales and export to select global markets.
What is Expected:
- Market Positioning: The Tekton will be positioned above the Magnite in Nissan's India portfolio, targeting the mid-size SUV segment.
- Competition: Upon launch, the Nissan Tekton will compete against established rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara/Victoris, Renault Duster, and Honda Elevate.
- Powertrains: While official specifications are yet to be revealed, the Tekton is expected to be offered with a range of petrol engines, including a possible hybrid iteration. Engine options could include 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines, with manual and automatic transmission choices. A hybrid or mild-hybrid option may also be available to enhance fuel efficiency.
- Pricing: It is speculated that the Nissan Tekton will have a starting price of approximately Rs 10 lakh to Rs 10.5 lakh ex-showroom.
- Growth Strategy: The Tekton is central to Nissan Motor India's growth strategy, with plans for a sub-4 metre MPV in early 2026 and a 7-seater SUV based on the Renault Bigster platform in early 2027. Nissan aims to triple its domestic and export volumes by FY26.
When it's Expected:
The Nissan Tekton is expected to be launched in India between April and June 2026. The design of the SUV was revealed on October 7, 2025.
