Keir Starmer's India Visit: UK Opposition Leader Meets Prime Minister Modi in Mumbai on October 9

United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer is scheduled to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mumbai on October 9, 2025. The meeting will occur during Starmer's official visit to India from October 8-9.

Starmer's visit aims to strengthen the India-UK strategic partnership. Both leaders will review the progress of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, aligning with the "Vision 2035" roadmap. This roadmap focuses on initiatives in trade and investment, technology and innovation, defense and security, climate and energy, health, education, and people-to-people relations.

The Prime Ministers will also discuss the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), emphasizing its role as a central element of the future economic partnership between the two nations. They are expected to exchange views on regional and global issues and engage with industry experts, policymakers, and innovators.

In addition to the bilateral talks, Modi and Starmer will participate in the CEO Forum at Jio World Centre and the 6th edition of the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai.

Starmer's itinerary also includes a focus on trade and investment opportunities, particularly for the Scotch whisky industry, which is anticipated to benefit significantly from the India-UK Free Trade Agreement. Members and producers of the Scotch Whisky Association are part of Starmer's trade delegation, exploring potential increases in whisky sales to India.

Prior to the meeting with Starmer, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to inaugurate several infrastructure projects in Maharashtra on October 8, including the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) and the Mumbai Metro Line-3. The Navi Mumbai International Airport, built under a Public-Private Partnership at an estimated cost of ₹19,650 crore, is designed to handle a large volume of passengers and cargo annually. The Mumbai Metro Line-3 is the city's first fully underground metro corridor. Modi will also launch "Mumbai One", a mobility app integrating public transport systems across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Starmer was received at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport by Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and Governor Acharya Devvrat upon his arrival in Mumbai on October 8.
