Motorola has officially announced the rollout of the Android 16 update for its smartphones in India, starting with select models from its premium Edge series. This announcement, made via a press release on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, underscores Motorola's commitment to providing its users with faster, smarter, and more secure updates.
The initial wave of devices slated to receive the Android 16 update includes the Motorola Edge 60 Pro, Motorola Edge 60 Fusion, and Motorola Edge 50 Pro. These smartphones will be among the first to experience the new features and enhancements that Android 16 brings. The updates are being delivered over the air (OTA).
T.M. Narasimhan, Managing Director, Motorola India, emphasized the company's focus on customer-centricity and elevating the user experience. He stated that the Android 16 rollout demonstrates their commitment to providing faster, smarter, and more secure updates, combining the best of hardware and software innovation.
The Android 16 update introduces several key features and improvements designed to enhance user experience and device functionality:
- Notification Auto Grouping: Manages and condenses multiple alerts from applications to reduce notification clutter.
- Improved Hearing Device Support: Offers better integration and control for hearing aids, including support for LE Audio devices in noisy environments.
- Instant Hotspot: Allows tablets and Chromebooks signed into the same Google account to connect to a user's smartphone hotspot without needing a password.
- Modes: A function that lets users create personalized profiles for different activities, such as working or sleeping, which can control notifications, app behavior, and system settings.
- Security Enhancements: Introduces an "Advanced Protection" feature and an updated Moto Secure 5.5 suite, which includes a "Secure Power-Off" function.
In addition to these features, the update brings a refreshed interface, smarter system settings, new diagnostic tools, expanded battery insights, and improved accessibility options. The latest builds for the Motorola Edge 60 Pro, Edge 60 Fusion, and Edge 50 Pro are approximately 4 GB in size and include the latest security patches. The Edge 60 Pro and Edge 60 Fusion receive the September 2025 security patch, while the Edge 50 Pro is updated with the August 2025 security patch.
Motorola has indicated that the Android 16 update will be progressively extended to more of its devices in the future. While the company hasn't provided a specific timeline for the rollout to other models, several devices are expected to receive the update.
