Modi and Netanyahu Discuss Regional Developments and Strengthening India-Israel Ties in Recent Phone Call.

New Delhi, October 9, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, congratulating him on the advancements made regarding the US President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan.

The conversation occurred as Israel and Hamas reached an agreement on the initial phase of the peace deal proposed by President Trump. This breakthrough, facilitated by US mediation, comes exactly two years after the October 7th attack by Hamas on Israel. The initial phase focuses on the release of hostages held by Hamas and a phased withdrawal of Israeli troops.

According to a statement from Netanyahu's office, the Israeli Prime Minister paused a security cabinet meeting, which was convened to discuss the ceasefire and hostage-release deal in Gaza, to speak with PM Modi. Modi conveyed that Netanyahu has consistently been a close friend and that their strong friendship would endure. Netanyahu expressed his gratitude to his Indian counterpart for Israel's support, and both leaders affirmed their commitment to continued close cooperation.

PM Modi also took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share details of the conversation. He stated, "Called my friend, Prime Minister Netanyahu, to congratulate him on the progress made under President Trump's Gaza peace plan. We welcome the agreement on the release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza. Reaffirmed that terrorism in any form or manifestation is unacceptable anywhere in the world".

In addition to the Gaza peace plan, Modi also conveyed that terrorism, regardless of its form, remains unacceptable on a global scale. He further welcomed the agreement concerning the release of hostages and the increase in humanitarian aid designated for Gaza.

This phone call marks the second interaction between the two leaders within the past month. The recent progress in negotiations, under the aegis of the US, represents a significant step forward after the conflict that began two years ago with the Hamas attack on Israel, where approximately 1,250 Israelis were killed and around 250 individuals were taken hostage. In response, Israel launched a counter-offensive that resulted in a high number of casualties and severe conditions within Gaza.
