Mumbai, Nov 17 (IANS) – Television actress Sayantani Ghosh has firmly addressed and dismissed recent pregnancy rumors that have been circulating online. The actress, who is making a return to television with her new show "Jagadhatri," took to social media to express her frustration and clarify her stance on family planning.
Speculation arose after Ghosh was photographed in loose-fitting clothing, leading some to believe she might be expecting. However, Ghosh has refuted these claims, stating that if she were pregnant, she would not have committed to a daily soap that demands significant time and energy. "If I had been pregnant, I wouldn't have taken up a daily soap, playing a prominent part. Why can't people be and let be?" she questioned.
Ghosh, who married Anugrah Tiwari in 2021, emphasized that family planning is a personal decision between her and her husband. She expressed her disappointment with societal stereotypes that pressure women to have children after marriage, particularly as they approach their 40s. "It's stereotypical thinking ke ab marriage ko kuch time ho gya or she's in her 40s toh baby ho jana chahiye. Who are these people judging?" Ghosh stated.
The actress further articulated that while she understands biological factors and societal pressures, every couple has the right to decide when to start a family. She conveyed that she and her husband are currently content with being godparents to their niece and nephew and are not yet ready to take on the responsibility of parenthood. "For now, I am happy being a godmother to a beautiful niece and nephew, so I have become mami and bua. Apart from this, we, as a couple are still not there. This is purely our decision, and to take a decision on having a baby, we both have to be mentally in that space. As of now, we are taking our time," she explained.
Ghosh's statement also served as a broader commentary on the judgment women often face regarding family planning. She highlighted the importance of respecting individual choices and timelines, urging society to move away from making assumptions and passing judgment on such personal matters. Through her statements, Ghosh not only addressed the pregnancy speculation but also highlighted a broader issue—how women often face judgment related to family planning. She said every couple has the freedom to decide when they want to start a family, and that there should be more understanding and fewer assumptions.
Interestingly, Ghosh also recently celebrated her 20th year in the entertainment industry. She voiced her concerns about the industry's ingrained stereotyping, noting that after two decades, she still feels the need to remind people that she is capable of more than just specific roles.
Ghosh is currently excited about her return to television with "Jagadhatri," where she plays Maya Deshmukh, a powerful media mogul. The show also stars Farman Haider, who plays an IPS officer, fulfilling his childhood dream through the role. "Jagadhatri" tells the story of a woman with a dual life, balancing her role as a daughter with her work as an undercover officer.
