Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh: Sixteen students at a private school in Sandila town, Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, fell unconscious on Thursday, November 20, 2025, after a suspected gas leak on the school premises.
School officials reported a strong smell of gas spreading rapidly throughout the school, causing panic among the students, who began running from their classrooms. Teachers promptly evacuated the building, and parents and local authorities were alerted.
All the affected students were immediately taken to two private hospitals in the area. One student was later referred to King George's Medical University in Lucknow for advanced treatment.
District Magistrate (DM) Anunay Jha and Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena, along with other officials, arrived at the school to assess the situation and meet with the hospitalized students. DM Jha confirmed that approximately 16 students were affected by the gas leak but stated that all were in stable condition. He has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident. The DM assured that strict action would be taken once the source of the leak is identified. "The source of the gas leak is yet to be ascertained. Necessary legal action will follow after the inquiry," Jha stated.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the Hardoi gas leak incident and directed officials to ensure the students receive appropriate medical care and to conduct a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the leak.
