To achieve lasting peace in Manipur, Bhagwat emphasizes the crucial role of community patience and stability.

Imphal, November 20, 2025 – Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat commenced a three-day visit to Manipur today, emphasizing the critical role of community-led initiatives in restoring stability to the strife-torn state. His visit, the first since ethnic violence erupted in May 2023, comes as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seeks to revive the government after months of President's Rule.

Upon arriving at Imphal's Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Bhagwat was greeted by RSS members and local BJP officials. Sources indicate that Bhagwat will focus on the RSS's "Panch Parivartan" initiative, which encompasses personal, family, societal, national, and global transformations, tailored to Manipur's context of healing and rebuilding.

Bhagwat's itinerary includes meetings with tribal leaders from hill districts such as Churachandpur and Kangpokpi, youth groups in the Imphal Valley, academics from Manipur University, and women's self-help groups. An RSS insider revealed that the emphasis would be on dialogue and understanding grievances while underscoring shared Indic values to bridge divides. Evening sessions at the RSS headquarters in Thangmeiband are also planned, where Bhagwat is expected to address over 500 swayamsevaks on "Manipur: From Conflict to Cohesion".

Addressing dignitaries in Imphal, Bhagwat stressed that restoring stability is not the government's responsibility alone but requires collective effort at the community and societal level. He highlighted the importance of public awareness and patience in the ongoing peacebuilding process.

Manipur has experienced sporadic violence since the Meitei-Kuki clashes of 2023, which were sparked by demands for Scheduled Tribe status for the Meiteis. The violence has displaced over 60,000 people and led to persistent blockades between the hills and valley. Bhagwat's visit aims to revive the RSS's presence in a polarized environment. Civil society groups, including the All Tribal Students' Union of Manipur (ATSUM), have welcomed the outreach, urging tangible steps toward disarmament and rehabilitation.

Bhagwat's presence also adds RSS support to the BJP's political strategy in Manipur. The state has been under central rule since February 13, 2025, after the BJP-NPP alliance collapsed due to ethnic tensions.

In June 2024, Bhagwat expressed concern over the continued lack of peace in Manipur, stressing the need for unity and brotherhood. He emphasized that the situation in Manipur should be considered a priority, calling for an end to election rhetoric and a focus on the challenges facing the nation. Bhagwat also highlighted the importance of unity among all communities, respecting each other's faiths, and working together for the common good.
