Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 14-year-old cricketer for the Rajasthan Royals (RR), has become the center of attention in the IPL 2025 season after his record-breaking century against the Gujarat Titans (GT). His remarkable feat has drawn praise from cricket legends and Bollywood celebrities alike.
Suryavanshi's explosive innings of 101 runs off just 38 balls, which included 11 sixes and 7 fours, not only propelled his team to an eight-wicket victory but also etched his name in IPL history as the youngest Indian to score a century. He achieved the second-fastest century in IPL history, only behind Chris Gayle's record of 30 balls.
Following his impressive performance, numerous celebrities took to social media to express their admiration for the young cricketer. Actor Vicky Kaushal shared on Instagram, "A knock for the ages! Massive Respect, Vaibhav Suryavanshi". Arjun Kapoor also lauded the young talent, writing on his Instagram story, "Take a bow, young man!!! Unreal!!! A 14-year-old living the dream… Vaibhav Suryavanshi". Preity Zinta, co-owner of the Punjab Kings, expressed her excitement on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Wow !!! Vaibhav Suryavanshi. What an incredible talent Such a thrill to watch a stunning 35 ball century by this 14year old. This year IPL is lit! The future of Indian cricket is bright".
Sachin Tendulkar also praised Suryavanshi's innings, noting his fearless approach, quick bat speed, and energy transfer behind the ball. Former England captain Michael Vaughan called Suryavanshi 'Boss Baby' and hailed his achievement as "one of the greatest achievements in cricket".
Suryavanshi's journey to IPL stardom began at a young age. Born on March 27, 2011, in Tajpur village, Bihar, his passion for cricket was recognized by his father when he was just four years old. He joined a cricket academy at nine and later trained under Manish Ojha, a former Ranji cricketer. By 12, he was representing Bihar in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. He made his first-class debut for Bihar against Mumbai in January 2024. Rajasthan Royals secured him for INR 1.1 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Despite the widespread acclaim, Suryavanshi's age has been subject to controversy. Some locals have claimed that he is older than his official age of 14.
Regardless of the controversy surrounding his age, Vaibhav Suryavanshi's remarkable achievement has captured the attention of the cricketing world and has solidified his position as a rising star in Indian cricket.
