Tensions have escalated along the India-Pakistan border, with reports of casualties on the Indian side due to shelling and drone attacks allegedly initiated by Pakistan. The recent incidents have resulted in the loss of lives of two army personnel, an Indian Air Force (IAF) sergeant, and a Border Security Force (BSF) Sub-Inspector (SI) in Jammu.
The attacks follow India's "Operation Sindoor," launched in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which India claims was perpetrated by Pakistan-based terrorists. Operation Sindoor involved strikes on alleged terrorist camps within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Pakistan responded with drone and missile attacks, targeting multiple locations across Indian states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
Indian authorities reported that Pakistani drones targeted 26 locations, from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat. These attacks prompted a strong response from India, with the army reportedly destroying key Pakistani posts and terrorist launch pads near Jammu, which they say were being used to launch tube-launched drones. India has also claimed to have struck airbases in Pakistan. Pakistan has denied any damage to its air assets.
In response to the escalating situation, India has activated its missile systems and intensified counter-drone operations along the Line of Control (LoC). There have been reports of explosions in areas of Jammu and Kashmir, including Udhampur, Rajouri, and Akhnoor. Indian forces have been actively thwarting Pakistani drone attacks with air defense systems.
The international community has yet to release any formal statements regarding the current conflict. The United States brokered a ceasefire between the two nations, but it was violated hours later.
