Patna Police have made significant progress in the Chandan Mishra murder case, with two more arrests made, bringing the total of shooters in custody to four out of the five involved. Vijaykant Pandey, also known as Rudra Pandey, and Rajesh Yadav, both residents of Buxar district, have been identified as the individuals most recently apprehended.
The arrests were announced by Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya K Sharma. SSP Sharma also noted that one shooter is still at large and that police are actively pursuing the remaining suspect. Additionally, police recovered 190 grams of heroin based on information revealed by Rajesh Yadav.
Chandan Mishra, a convicted murderer out on parole, was fatally shot by five gunmen at a private hospital in Patna on July 17, 2025. CCTV footage of the incident showed the armed men entering the hospital's ICU and opening fire. Mishra died at the scene.
Prior to these arrests, Tauseef, alias Badshah, Balwant Kumar Singh, and Raviranjan Kumar Singh were also taken into custody. In addition to the shooters, several associates of the prime accused have been arrested, including Harsh, Bhim, Nishu Khan, and Abhisekh Kumar. Investigations suggest that Rajesh provided the weapons used in the murder.
In a related development, two suspects, Balwant Kumar Singh and Ravi Ranjan Singh, were injured in an encounter with the Special Task Force (STF) and Bhojpur police. Abhishek Kumar Singh, also from Buxar, was arrested. The encounter led to the recovery of two pistols, a country-made pistol, two magazines, and four live cartridges. SP Bhojpur, Raj, stated that raids are ongoing to arrest others involved in the murder.
Police believe the murder was orchestrated by Onkarnath Singh, also known as Sheru, a former associate of Mishra. Mishra and Sheru had a long history of criminal activity together, forming a gang in 2009 that operated across multiple districts in Bihar. Their gang was involved in crimes such as the murder of a police officer and a coaching center operator. The relationship between Mishra and Sheru fractured in 2015, leading to a violent rivalry.
Following the murder, five police personnel were suspended for dereliction of duty. The Patna High Court has stayed the arrest of Dr. Pintu Kumar Singh, a surgeon at Paras HMRI hospital, who was named in the FIR filed by Mishra's father. The court has directed Dr. Singh to cooperate with the police investigation.
