A fire at Anand Vihar Hospital in east Delhi on Saturday afternoon resulted in the death of one staff member and injuries to at least 10 other people. Delhi Fire Service officials reported receiving a call about the blaze at approximately 12:12 pm, prompting the dispatch of eight fire tenders to the scene.
The fire broke out at Kosmos Specialist Hospital in Shahdara's Anand Vihar area. Initial reports indicate that the fire originated in the server room located on the ground floor of the multi-story hospital on Vikas Marg. The flames quickly spread, filling the hospital with thick smoke.
According to authorities, eight patients were successfully rescued and transferred to Pushpanjali Hospital. Seven of the injured individuals were admitted to Anand Vihar Hospital, while the remaining three sustained minor injuries. Among those rescued were three hospital staff members: Amit, a housekeeping worker, and Har Devi and Naresh, who worked in the dialysis room. Amit was declared dead at Pushpanjali Hospital, while the other two staff members and all evacuated patients were reported to be in stable condition. Sadly, the staff member who died was a 28-year-old member of the housekeeping staff.
The quick response of emergency services helped bring the blaze under control, and fire department officials confirmed that there was no further threat to the hospital or nearby buildings. Fire Officer Ashok Jaiswal stated that eight fire tenders were at the scene. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
The incident forced hospital staff to break windows in order to evacuate patients to another facility. Police received a PCR call regarding the fire around 12:20 pm.
