Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed his admiration for the upcoming historical epic, "Kesari Veer: Legend of Somnath". At the Devabhavo Kabaddi Spardha in Wardha, Nagpur, Fadnavis lauded the film's trailer and teaser, urging the public to support the movie, which pays tribute to the warriors who defended the Somnath Temple.
Fadnavis stated that "Kesari Veer" is more than just a film; it is a depiction of India's history. He highlighted that the Somnath battle, which occurred in the 14th century AD, was led by the young warrior Veer Hamirji Gohil, who fought to protect the temple. Fadnavis, after watching the teaser, said he was impressed and emphasized the film serves as a reminder of the importance of being aware of our history.
"Kesari Veer" delves into the inspiring story of unsung warriors who fought and sacrificed their lives to protect the Somnath Temple from invaders in the 14th century AD. The film stars Suniel Shetty as Vegda Ji, a fearless warrior, Sooraj Pancholi as Veer Hamirji Gohil, and Akanksha Sharma as Rajal, a fierce female warrior. Vivek Oberoi plays Zafar, the menacing villain who seeks to convert people based on religion.
Sooraj Pancholi described his role as Hamirji as challenging and spiritually enriching. To prepare for the role and ensure authenticity, Pancholi adopted a vegetarian lifestyle and spent months perfecting his horse-riding and sword-fighting techniques.
Suniel Shetty, along with the "Kesari Veer" team, attended the Devabhau Rashtriya Kabaddi Spardha 2025 Final in Wardha, Maharashtra. The event was also attended by other dignitaries, including Shri Praful Patel, Shri Pratap Sarnaik, Shri Ashok Uike, Dr. Pankaj Bhoyar, Shri Indranil Nayak Ji, and Shri Ramdas Tadas Ji.
The film, directed by Prince Dhiman and produced by Kanu Chauhan under the Chauhan Studios banner, is slated to release on May 23, 2025. Panorama Studios is the worldwide distributor for the film.
The release date for "Kesari Veer" was initially set for May 16, 2025, but was later postponed to May 23, 2025.
In addition to his support for "Kesari Veer," Suniel Shetty has also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address on Operation Sindoor, emphasizing the importance of national unity. Shetty shared Modi's quote, "Water and blood - will not flow together," on social media.
