After years of anticipation, Karan Johar's Dharma Productions is reportedly moving forward with "Dostana 2," планируется как полноценный театральный фильм, наполненный музыкой, комедией, романтикой и драмой. Sources indicate that Vikrant Massey is slated to headline the film alongside Lakshya, with the movie expected to hit theaters in 2026.

"Dostana 2" aims to offer a progressive narrative while maintaining the essence of the original film. Insiders reveal that the script has been carefully crafted to carry the franchise forward. The film is expected to go into production in January 2026. The makers are planning for a late 2026 release.

While the original "Dostana" featured two straight men pretending to be gay for comedic effect, "Dostana 2" is being developed as a genuine queer romantic comedy with heart and humor. According to sources, the casting of Vikrant and Lakshya emphasizes representation, promising a story that is both funny and relevant to contemporary audiences.

Directed by Shauna Gautam, known for her web series "Nadaniyaan", "Dostana 2" aims to bring a youthful and modern perspective to the franchise. Originally, Collin D'Cunha ("Call Me Bae") was set to direct, but reports suggest Advait Chandan ("Secret Superstar") may take over. While earlier reports suggested a direct-to-digital release on Netflix, current information points towards a theatrical release.

The female lead was initially to be played by Janhvi Kapoor, but there are reports that South Indian actress Sreeleela is being considered for the role. Sources suggest that Sreeleela's rising popularity and on-screen presence have caught the attention of Dharma Productions.

Vikrant Massey is expected to complete his commitments to the Sri Sri Ravishankar Biopic and "Don 3" by the end of 2025, before commencing work on "Dostana 2".
