Directed by Rahul Ravindran, the movie has generated significant buzz since the release of its teaser on December 9, 2024. However, the lack of new information has led to a surge of online activity, with fans trending the hashtag #ReleaseTheGirlfriend, demanding more insights into the project.

Responding to the online fervor, Rashmika took to social media to reassure her "lovelies." She acknowledged the delay and the trending hashtag, emphasizing that director Rahul Ravindran is dedicated to delivering the best possible film. The "Pushpa" actress described "The Girlfriend" as a particularly special project, highlighting its character-driven narrative and exploration of themes often left unspoken.

"It's a film where we speak about things we generally don't talk much about," Rashmika shared, hinting at the unique and potentially sensitive subject matter the film delves into. She further emphasized the commitment to quality, promising fans that the wait will ultimately be worthwhile. To show their appreciation for the outpouring of love and support, Rashmika assured fans that they would expedite the process and deliver the film as soon as possible.

Prior to this update, the film's makers released a teaser audio song titled "Reyi Lolothula" to commemorate Rashmika's birthday. The song features the voices of Hesham Abdul Wahab, Chinmayi Sripada, and Vijay Devarakonda, with lyrics penned by Rakendu Mouli. Notably, Rahul Ravindran, the film's director, also contributed a poem that is included in the song.

"The Girlfriend" boasts a talented team, with Krishnan Vasanth handling cinematography and Shravya Varma serving as the costume designer. The film is produced by Geetha Arts, Mass Movie Makers, and Dheeraj Mogilineni Entertainment, with Dheeraj Mogilineni and Vidya Koppineedi taking on the roles of producers.
