In a heartwarming gesture that underscores the importance of family ties, veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan gifted his Juhu bungalow, Prateeksha, to his daughter, Shweta Bachchan-Nanda, in November of last year. This bungalow isn't just another property; it's the first home Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan bought as a couple and holds immense emotional significance for the entire Bachchan family.
The transfer of ownership was formalized through two separate gift deeds for the two plots the house is built on, executed on November 8th and registered the following day. Reports indicate that a stamp duty of ₹50.65 lakh was paid for the transaction. The market value of Prateeksha is estimated to be over ₹50.63 crore.
Prateeksha's history is deeply intertwined with the Bachchan family's journey. The bungalow was purchased in 1976, shortly after the success of the film Sholay, and became the first home owned by the Bachchan's. Amitabh's father, the renowned poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, gave the bungalow its name, "Prateeksha," which means "waiting." He even penned a poem incorporating the name, emphasizing a welcoming atmosphere where no one is kept waiting.
This house witnessed the upbringing of Amitabh and Jaya's children, Shweta and Abhishek. It served as the venue for Abhishek Bachchan's wedding to Aishwarya Rai in 2007, further solidifying its place as a cherished family space. Amitabh himself has often expressed his sentimental attachment to Prateeksha, reminiscing about the joyous occasions and milestones celebrated within its walls.
Amitabh Bachchan has stated that he doesn't differentiate between his son and daughter. By gifting Prateeksha to Shweta, he has ensured that both his children have equal rights to his properties.
While Amitabh Bachchan currently resides in Jalsa, another of his iconic bungalows, Prateeksha remains a symbol of the family's legacy. The Bachchan family also owns Janak, which serves as Amitabh's office, and Vatsa, which has been leased to Citibank India.
The decision to gift Prateeksha to Shweta Nanda highlights the enduring bonds of family and the importance of preserving cherished memories. It's a testament to the values instilled by Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, ensuring that their legacy continues to thrive for generations to come.
