The Cannes Film Festival 2025 has already become a memorable event, especially for fans of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The Bollywood icon made a stunning appearance, accompanied by her daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan. The mother-daughter duo were spotted at Nice airport on Tuesday, receiving a warm welcome ahead of Aishwarya's red carpet appearances as a global ambassador for L'Oréal Paris.
Aishwarya Rai, a Cannes veteran since her debut in 2002, marked her 22nd appearance at the prestigious film festival. This year, she chose to share the global stage with her daughter, continuing a heartwarming tradition. A video of Aishwarya and Aaradhya twinning in black coats went viral, capturing the hearts of fans. Aishwarya sported a navy blue trench coat, while Aaradhya looked adorable in her black coat.
Aishwarya's first red carpet look was nothing short of regal. She donned a Manish Malhotra creation—a handwoven kadwa ivory Handloom Banarasi saree with a handwoven tissue drape, complemented by an imperial heirloom of rubies from Manish Malhotra Jewellery. The ensemble paid homage to Indian handloom and cultural roots. Allia Al Rufai and Nayaab Randhaw styled her look, while Stephane Lancien took care of her hair and Aditya Sharma spruced up her makeup.
However, it was the sindoor (vermillion) that truly captured everyone's attention. Social media erupted with praise for Aishwarya, with many calling her the "Queen of Cannes." Some fans saw it as a nod to "Operation Sindoor," while others speculated it was a response to ongoing divorce rumors with Abhishek Bachchan.
Aishwarya's choice of attire also served as a throwback to her Cannes debut, reminding fans of her enduring presence and influence at the festival. Many celebrated her return to her cultural roots, praising her for representing Indian culture and strength on a global platform.
Adding to her list of iconic Cannes moments, Aishwarya made a second appearance in a custom black velvet gown by Gaurav Gupta. This look channelled old Hollywood glamour, featuring a sculptural neckline, galactic embroidery, and a voluminous silver cloak-like wrap. Aishwarya's signature bold ruby-red lips, softly blushed cheeks, and side-parted vintage waves completed the look, evoking a Marilyn Monroe-esque vibe with a modern twist.
Karan Johar, who is also attending Cannes 2025, lauded Aishwarya's impact on the festival, calling her the "queen of Cannes". He reminisced about her debut with Shah Rukh Khan for "Devdas," emphasizing the media energy and excitement she brings to the event.
Aishwarya has previously shared that Aaradhya enjoys the familiar and sociable atmosphere of Cannes, feeling at home amidst the celebration of cinema. She believes Aaradhya understands that Cannes is a film festival dedicated to celebrating the world of cinema and enjoys reconnecting with friends there.
Aishwarya Rai’s appearances at Cannes 2025 have not only solidified her status as a fashion icon but also as a symbol of Indian culture and resilience. Whether she's honoring tradition in a saree or embracing modern glamour in a velvet gown, Aishwarya continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
